Enhanced Gradebook Filters

As of 8/20/22 Rice Canvas will be using Enhanced Gradebook Filters.

Enhanced Gradebook Filters allows you to select and manage condition types and conditions used in a gradebook filter and enable or disable a filter. A filter may be used once or saved for future use.

How do I use Enhanced Gradebook Filters?

Open Grades

In Course Navigation, click the Grades link.

To view or manage gradebook filters, click the Filters button.

In the Gradebook Filters sidebar, you can view and manage existing gradebook filters [1] and create new filters [2].

Apply Filter

To apply or remove a filter, click the Apply Filter toggle button.

View Applied Filters

View the filtered gradebook content [1].

Applied filter names display in the Applied Filters section [2].

To remove an applied filter, click the Remove icon [3].

Notes: To view the View drop-down menu that was previously included in the main gradebook page, click the Settings icon [6].

How do I create a filter in Enhanced Gradebook Filters?

If enabled by your institution, you can use Enhanced Gradebook Filters to create a gradebook filter for your course.

In Course Navigation, click the Grades link.

To view or manage gradebook filters, click the Filters button.

Create New Filter

To create a new filter, click the Create New Filter button.

Select Condition Type

To add a condition type, click the Select Condition Type drop-down menu [1].

You can filter gradebook content by assignment group [2], grading period [3], module [4], section [5], student group [6], submissions [7], start date [8], and end date [9].

You can select a specific condition in which to filter gradebook content. The Condition field format and listed options vary depending on the selected Condition Type.

If you selected the Assignment Group condition type [1], course assignment groups display in the Select Condition dropdown [2].

To view content for a specific assignment group, click the assignment group name [3].

If you selected the Module condition type [1], course modules display in the Select Condition dropdown [2].

To view content for a specific module, click the module name [3].

If you selected the Student Group condition type [1], course student groups display in the Select Condition dropdown [2].

To view content for a specific student group, click the student group name [3].

If you selected the Submissions condition type [1], you can view gradebook content that include submissions [2] or have ungraded submissions [3].

If you selected the Start Date condition type [1], you can view assignments with a start date on or after a specific date.

To view assignments with a start date on or after a specific date, add the date in the Date field [2].

If you selected the End Date condition type [1], you can view assignments with an end date on or before a specific date.

To view assignments with an end date on or before a specific date, type the date in the Date field [2].

You can include multiple conditions to a gradebook filter. To add a condition, click the Add Condition button.

To apply the filter to the gradebook, click the Apply Filter toggle.

To save the filter for future use, type a filter name in the Save these conditions as a filter field [1]. Then click the Save button [2].
